What is Pick 4?
Pick 4 is a four-digit lottery that is played twice a day. A set of four numbers between 0 and 9 is drawn at random and you win prizes by matching those numbers according to the conditions of the bet type you select.
Many states have their own Pick 4 draws. However, in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, players take part in the same version of the game - Tri-State Pick 4.
When do draws take place?
Pick 4 drawings are held daily at 1:10 PM ET and 6:50 PM ET.
What time do ticket sales close?
Sales cut off at 1:00 PM ET for the Day draw, and 6:45 PM ET for the Evening draw.
Is there a minimum age to play?
You must be at least 18 years old to play Pick 4 in Maine.
Can I play more than one draw at a time?
Yes, you can play the same numbers for up to 21 consecutive days, for the Day draw, the Evening draw, or both.
What are the different bet types?
The main bet types are Straight, Box, Pair Play or Single Digit. You can combine any of these plays on a single ticket, so you would be able to wager a Straight/Box. A Straight is a bet on four numbers being drawn in exact order, while a Box is a wager that they will appear in any order.
How much does it cost to play?
You can decide your play amount in Pick 4, from a minimum of $0.50 to a maximum of $5. The more you wager, the more you can win.
How much can I win?
A Straight play will reward you with 5,000 times your bet amount if you successfully match the numbers in order. For Box wagers, the prize depends on how many ways you play. Go to the

How many ways can you play?
You can play a 4-Way, 6-Way, 12-Way or 24-Way Box. This refers to how many of your numbers are the same as each other. A combination such as 1112, for example, is a 4-Way play because those numbers can only be arranged four ways (1112, 1121, 1211 and 2111). Go to the

What are the odds of winning a prize?
The odds of matching four numbers in exact order are 1 in 10,000. Your chances of winning another bet type are better, ranging from 1 in 10 to 1 in 2,500. For a full list of the odds for each play type, see the Odds and Prizes page.
How should I claim my winnings?
You can claim winnings up to $600 from a Maine Lottery retailer. For larger payouts, you'll need to go to the lottery office in Augusta or claim by mail.
How long do I have to claim a prize?
All Pick 4 prizes in Maine must be claimed within one year of the draw date.
Will my prize be taxed?
Federal taxes are withheld at 24 percent for prizes over $5,000. The rate of state tax is 7.15 percent.
