Pick 4 gives you more options for how to play than most traditional lotteries. Find out all about the different bet types below, as you consider which way you want to try and match the winning numbers.
To win, your four selected numbers must be drawn in that exact order. For example, if you play 1234 and the numbers are drawn as 4321, this would be a loss. It's the play type with the lowest odds, but the best prize.
When your four numbers are 'boxed up', it means the order they are drawn in is irrelevant. In this case, a bet of 1234 would still be a winner if the numbers were drawn as 4321. The odds are better than a Straight, but the payout is lower.
Instead of having to match four numbers, you can play just two. Play a Front Pair (first two digits), Middle Pair (second and third numbers) or Back Pair (final two digits). You must get both numbers in the correct position to win the associated prize.
This is the easiest play type of all to win! Choose a single number from 0 to 9 and match it in the correct position to win. You can pick the first digit (e.g. 1-x-x-x), second digit (x-2-x-x), third digit (x-x-3-x) or fourth digit (x-x-x-4).
You can play any combination of bet types on a single ticket in Maine. For example, you can put a Straight and a Box together, or even play a Straight, Box, Pair and Single Digit on the same ticket. You just have to pay for each play.
For Box bets, you can play either a 4-Way, 6-Way, 12-Way or 24-Way. It might sound a bit confusing, but it simply relates to the combination of numbers you pick and how many of them are the same. The table below tells you exactly which bet type corresponds to each configuration of numbers.
